China’s Sky City to become the world’s tallest building

A 220 storey building in China named Sky City is expected to top out next month, becoming the world’s tallest building with a total height of 838 meters. The building has been constructed at an astonishing pace, taking just seven months to complete due to a system of prefabricated parts and modules. Located just outside Changsha in a rapidly developing waterfront area, the Sky City will house 31,000 people, a small amount of offices, a thousand person capacity hotel, and a school capable of educating up to 4,600 children. All this cost just $628 million USD, a fraction of the cost of the current tallest building the Burj Khalifa, which totalled $1.5 billion USD and was built in five years - an incredible feat at the time.
